DULUTH, MN. (Northern News Now) - The Duluth East Dance Team will host several local dance teams for their annual dance show.
The East Side Steppers, along with teams from Denfeld High School, Hermantown-Proctor, UMD, the College of St. Scholastica and several other local studios will hit the dance floor Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
The annual show features the best of local dance groups in Duluth.
“So we have a good lineup, a gamut of youth all the way up through college,” Kim Chick, the head coach of the Duluth East Dance Team, said.
The show not only features local school and colleges, but also several dance studios that teach dancers from around the area.
“Most of our kids grow up dancing at a local studio, so that’s the other aspect of the show is my kids also are participating with their local studio, so it’s always great to see them dance outside of our team,” Chick said.
With hundreds of dancers and friends and families, the Duluth East Dance Team uses the event to fundraise for their competitions in spring.
In just two weeks, the team will travel to the Twin Cities to compete against 13 other high school teams in sectionals.
The dance show gives them a chance to show off their work from the past year.
“You’re seeing, from technique work to strength training, to practicing so we look all exactly the same. We practice two hours every day, six days a week,” Chick said.
In addition to raising money for the team, they’re also hoping to help out a teammate who is battling stage four cancer.
“We do have a silent auction for her and all the proceeds are going to her family to help in the expenses of that,” Chick said.
Tickets for the show are $10 for adults and $5 for students, cash only.
Kids under four and performers are free.
The show is in the Duluth East High School gym.
