BOZEMAN, Montana - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will host a recruitment event Wednesday, January 31 in Bozeman, Montana, to hire full- and part-time federal Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) to work at Bozeman-Yellowstone International Airport (BZN).
Entry-level TSOs will be paid $25.76 per hour and be eligible for a $2,500 recruitment incentive upon starting with TSA. After one year of service with the agency, the TSO will receive another $2,500. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and a U.S. citizen or national to apply. Individuals do not need previous experience working in security or law enforcement fields to be considered for the position of TSO.
“We look forward to welcoming members of the local community at the TSA hiring event this week. Whether you have prior federal service or are looking to begin your federal career, please come learn about the opportunities TSA has to offer,” said TSA Federal Security Director for Montana Kc Wurtsbaugh. “We will have staff on-hand to discuss what applicants need to know about becoming a TSO, discuss the recently modified pay structure and assist with the application process. We remain motivated to hire local residents to work at BZN in this important role.”
TSA is hosting a one-day, in-person session Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, 2023 Commerce Way in Bozeman. Free parking is available in the hotel parking lot.
At the recruitment session, interested candidates will attend an informational meeting to learn more about applying to become a TSO, take a computer-based test and participate in a structured interview session. Applicants will also need to complete a medical evaluation, federal drug screening and pre-hire background investigation soon after the event.
Benefits include paid training, annual and sick leave, choice of federal health care plans, a pension and a generous 401k retirement plan. Veteran’s preference is not required to join the agency.
TSOs are eligible for shift differential pay for early morning and evening shifts as well as on Sundays. Overtime opportunities, which are paid at time and a half, may be made available.
TSOs screen hundreds of airline travelers and their belongings daily, ensuring that they arrive at their destinations safely and securely. Newly-hired TSOs will attend a two-week standardized training with other recently hired TSOs from around the country and will continue to receive ongoing on-the-job training.
The session and preliminary hiring process components can take between three and five hours, so TSA recommends arriving early in the day. Candidates are required to bring two valid forms of state or federal identification. One of those needs to be a photo ID. Please also bring a smartphone and/or passwords to be able to access your email account and www.usajobs.gov account.
