Tired of love? Grand Strand restaurant hosting anti-Valentine’s Day event – WMBF
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Valentine’s Day is the day most people buy flowers, chocolate and book dinner reservations weeks in advance. Still, Captain Archie’s is taking a different approach with an anti-Valentine’s Day party.
Manager Billy Riggs said the idea came about when his girlfriend asked what they were doing for the holiday.
“My answer to that was nothing,” Riggs said. “I said, ‘We’re kind of anti-Valentine’s Day around here.’ She said, ‘You should throw a party.’ So, it was the girlfriend’s idea, and if you’re a smart boyfriend, you listen to your girlfriend.”
Riggs said you do not have to be single to come and poke fun at the holiday.
He said you can enjoy a laid-back night without the Valentine’s Day hype.
You do not have to make reservations, and there will be live music, cheesy photos and your not-so-typical red roses.
Bobby and Phyllis Cruz have been married for nearly 50 years and frequently eat at Captain Archie’s.
They said an anti-Valentine’s Day party sounds cool because grand gestures are not always needed.
“It sounds like a great idea,” Phyllis said. " You don’t want to go in there with the table cloths, pedals and the candles you know, and this is a great place to hang out.”
Captain Archie’s is expecting a good-sized crowd and a boost in business from those choosing not to celebrate the day of love.
The event kicks off at 6 p.m.
