Right now, Salaar and Dunki are performing very well in the USA. While Salaar crossed 7 million dollars in North America (USA+Canada), Dunki has crossed the 5 million mark. But do you know that Dunki’s ticket price is almost half of Salaar’s? Do you know that Dunki’s footfalls are double that of Prashanth Neel’s directorial? Why is it so? Why is a film featuring Shah Rukh Khan, who is considered the King Of Overseas, having a lower ticket price?
Regarding the same Mythri Ravi Shankar has expressed his opinion. He says that the majority of the revenue for the Telugu movies comes during the first weekend, and that is why the makers are cashing in on it with premium ticket pricing. He further said, “Our Telugu diaspora is less compared to Hindi. We need to recover the invested amount and hence the premium pricing.”
Dil Raju, another top producer in the Telugu industry, said, “Generally, people say that Hindi movies have huge overseas potential compared to us. Their movies make huge numbers. There is a larger number of audiences who watch Hindi films. So having less ticket price can bring in more footfalls for Bollywood films.” Dil Raju said that Telugu movies could try the same model in the future as our overseas market is improving slowly.
The most important region among all would be the North American market. As of now, only event films like Baahubali, RRR, and Salaar earned huge bucks here. So, the key here would be to concentrate on more quality and content-rich movies that can appeal to larger audiences (across languages). If that happens, it won’t be an issue, even if the ticket price is lower. Until then, we should continue to have high pricing.
