The Malayalam film industry has witnessed the release of quite a good number of content-driven and commercial movies in recent times.
Mammootty’s Kaathal-The Core (2023) and Basil Joseph’s Falimy (2023), which were released in November, won the hearts of audiences by giving importance to content rather than commercial elements.
In December, there will be a box office clash with Salaar, Dunki, and Neru trying to win over the audience.
While Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran are the main attraction for Salaar: Cease Fire, Dunki has Shahrukh Khan in the lead role, and Mohanlal is pinning hopes on Neru.
Well, here are the major Malayalam films slated for release in December.
Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph have made successful films like Drishyam (2013, 2022) series and 12th Man (2022). Their next film Neru is a legal thriller.
The movie will be released on 21 December as a Christmas gift.
The makers have unveiled an official poster of the movie featuring Mohanlal as an advocate.
Neru is scripted by Jeethu and advocate Santhi Mayadevi, who played a crucial role in Drishyam 2 (2022).
Priyamani plays the female lead in the film. The Malayalam film also casts Anaswara Rajan, Ganesh Kumar, and Jagadish.
It is produced by Antony Perumbavoor’s Aashirvad Cinemas.

Joju George will be next seen in Antony directed by veteran director Joshiy. This is their second outing after Porinju Mariyam Jose (2019), a superhit.
Antony will be released in theatres on 1 December.
Going by the trailer, which was launched recently, it is evident that the story is set in a fictional town called Avaran City.
Joju George appears as Antony Anthrapper.
Antony features Kalyani Priyadarshan as a boxer.
Veteran director Joshiy is teaming up again with Joju George, Nyla Usha, Vijayaraghavan, and Chemban Vinod, who were all part of Porinju Mariyam Jose (2019).
The makers earlier unveiled the film’s first-look poster.
Antony is produced by Einstein Zach Paul under the banner of Einstein Media.
It is scripted by Rajesh Varma.

Directed by Anil Lal, Cheena Trophy stars Dhyan Sreenivasan in the lead. It is set to release in theatres on 8 December.
Cheena Trophy will be Dhyan Sreenivasan’s next release after his recent successful movie Nadhikalil Sundari Yamuna (2023).
The makers recently released the video of the song “Choodarum Neram” which featured the recording session of the soundtrack along with the nostalgic visuals of Kerala’s rural villages.
Cheena Trophy is produced by Anoop Mohan, Ashlin Mary Joy, and Lijo Ulahannan under the banner of Presidential Movies Private Limited.
The teaser, the first-look poster, and the songs hint that the movie will be a comedy entertainer.
Cheena Trophy also features Kenti Sirdo, Chef Pillai, Jaffer Idukki, Sudheesh, KPAC Leela, Devika Ramesh, Ponnamma Babu, Sunil Babu, Johnny Anthony, Jordi Poonjar, and Narayanan Kutty.
Santosh Anima is the cinematographer. Ranjan Abraham is the editor.
The music is composed by Sooraj Santhosh and Varkey.

Malayalam actor Mukesh will be next seen in Philips directed by debutant Alfred Kurian. The movie marks Mukesh’s 300th movie.
The trailer of the film suggested that it would be a fun entertainer.
Philips was originally slated for release on 24 November. But the makers decided to release it on 1 December.
The film features Mukesh, Innocent, Nobe Babu Thomas, and Navani Devanand in the lead roles. This is the last movie of actor Innocent who died on 26 March this year.
Philips is produced by Suvin K Varkey and Prasobh Krishna under the banner of Little Big Films.
