The trailer of musician-turned-actor GV Prakash Kumar’s Rebel is out. Keeping in trend with the Tamil-Malayalam bilingual movies like Manjummel Boys, Rebel also tries to cover the audience of both states.
Set in a fictitious college in Kerala, the film is about a Tamil student who gets bullied and oppressed there by the local political outfit. While Manjummel Boys was all in favor of camaraderie between the two states, Rebel seems to be towing a fine line as it deals with the harassment meted out to Tamils in Kerala.
While the first part of the trailer is all about the romance between GV Prakash and his college mate, played by Mamitha Baiju, the latter part of the film takes a violent turn. GV Prakash’s protagonist has to deal with the local political party that seems to have a problem with his romance and presence in the college. Befitting the title of the film, it is the rebellion of the hero against his oppressors in their terrain.
Sharing the trailer on social media, GV Prakash claimed that the film is based on a real incident. He also called the director a powerful voice of Tamil cinema. “A powerful voice from Tamil and Tamil cinema is here… a true incident,” he wrote.
Here’s the trailer:
Directed by Nikesh RS, the film has music by GV Prakash himself. Venkatesh VP, Shalu Rahim, Karunas, Adhithya Baskar, Kalloori Vinoth, and Subramaniya Siva also feature in the movie, which is produced by K E Gnanavel Raja, who is also bankrolling Kanguva.
