Premalu set to become fifth Malayalam movie to enter Rs 100 crore club.
When Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films are struggling in theatres, the Malayalam film industry is enjoying a historic run at the box office with back-to-back hits in the first quarter of 2024. The success streak, which was started by Jayaram-starrer Abraham Ozler and continued by Manjummel Boys, is now being helmed by the latest Malayalam release Premalu. The film is set to become the fifth Malayalam movie to cross Rs 100 crore at the global box office. This romantic comedy film was written and directed by Girish AD. It stars Naslen K, Gafoor and Mamitha Baiju in the lead roles. Produced by Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan and Syam Pushkaran, the film was made on a budget of Rs 3 crore which has now earned the verdict of blockbuster at the box office. Originally released in Malayalam language, the film was later dubbed in Telugu and was released in theatres on March 8. The makers are now gearing up for its Tamil dubbed release.
As per Sacnilk, the current worldwide collection of the movie stands at Rs 99 crore. With the Tamil release, the movie is expected to amass good numbers at the box office. According to the latest reports, the makers are looking to release the Tamil dubbed version of the movie on March 15. There has been no official confirmation for the same.
Impressed by the screenplay, storyline and performance of the actors, the ace filmmaker SS Rajamouli’s son SS Karthikeya bagged the Telugu dubbing rights of the movie. Premalu was struggling to enter the Rs 100 crore club; but now with the distribution of the movie in Telugu states, the film is looking confident to enter the club by today. In four weeks, the movie has collected Rs 37.70 crore overseas and Rs 61.30 crore at the domestic box office.
Premalu revolves around the story of Naslen, who falls in love with Mamitha Baiju but faces rejection after she lists out her demand for a mature and accomplished boyfriend. The story takes a funny turn after the entry of Shyam Mohan — who plays the role of a successful IT developer in the movie. The music of the movie was composed by Vishnu Vijay and was released in theatres on February 9.
