The honor comes ahead of two feature film releases for the 'Stranger Things' star, including 'A Quiet Place: Day One' and 'Gladiator 2.'
By Chris Gardner
Joseph Quinn had a breakthrough moment on the small-screen courtesy of Netflix’s Stranger Things but he’s about to be honored for making the leap to the big screen in a big way in 2024.
The 30-year-old actor has been selected to receive CinemaCon‘s Breakthrough Performer of the Year Award at the official convention for the National Association of Theater Owners next month in Las Vegas. Quinn will receive the trophy during the Big Screen Achievement Awards inside the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on April 11, a ceremony that will also fete Amy Poehler (Vanguard Award), Lupita Nyong’o (Star of the Year) and Shawn Levy (Director of the Year).

For Quinn, the honor comes ahead of starring roles in A Quiet Place: Day One for director Michael Sarnoski and Gladiator 2 for Ridley Scott. A Quiet Place: Day One, hitting theaters on June 28, also stars Lupita Nyong’o, Alex Wolff and Djimon Hounsou, as they experience the day the world went quiet. Gladiator 2, expected out this fall/winter, co-stars Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen, Fred Hechinger, Matt Lucas, Derek Jacobi and others.
“With two major tentpoles on the horizon in 2024 alone, with A Quiet Place: Day One and Gladiator 2, Joseph Quinn’s star is more on the rise than anyone could have anticipated,” said CinemaCon managing director Mitch Neuhauser. “And, Quinn, who really turned heads with his important role in Stranger Things, is set to become one of The Fantastic Four, it was just announced. Certainly, receiving the 2024 Breakthrough Performer of the Year award from CinemaCon is a most timely and well-deserved accolade.”
Neuhauser noted the big news that dropped in February when Marvel Studios revealed it had set the new cast for Fantastic Four, signing up Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Quinn as the heroes of the new franchise.
Londoner Quinn began his career after graduating from LAMDA when he landed a role on the BBC series Dickensian. He went on to star in BBC’s Howards End and Les Misérables, the Sky Original/HBO series Catherine The Great opposite Helen Mirren. On the big screen, Quinn starred in the filmmaker Claire Oakley’s debut Make Up. He will next be seen in the British indie Hoard from director Luna Carmoon, and is also signed up for a lead role in Bret Easton Ellis’ horror film Relapse.

CinemaCon will be held at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas from April 8-11. The event hosts north of 6,000 motion picture professionals from all corners of the industry including exhibition, distribution, marketing, promotion, equipment and concession areas. The International Cinema Technology Association (ICTA) and National Association of Concessionaires (NAC) are on board as tradeshow partners, with Coca-Cola serving as the official presenting sponsor.
