The upcoming Tamil film Pon Ondru Kanden is skipping the theatrical route as the makers have decided to release the film directly on Colors Tamil channel. A promo has been released along with the announcement. However, director V Priya, lead actors Vasanth Ravi, Ashok Selvan, and Aishwarya Lekshmi, and the film’s composer Yuvan Shankar Raja weren’t in the know of the new development.
Vasanth Ravi, known for Rocky and Jailer, took to social media to express his shock and disappointment with the production house Jio Studios for not having the courtesy to inform the cast and crew members of the film, who have ‘worked hard’ for it.
The tweet read, “Shocking!! Is this even True?? Especially, from a reputed and leading production house like Jio Studios @jiostudios. Extremely painful and disheartening to see the promo of Pon Ondru Kanden and the announcement of the world satellite premiere without any communication to @AshokSelvan, @AishuLekshmi, @thisisysr sir, @directorpriya_v mam or anyone associated with the film It! We have worked hard for this film.”
He added, “The whole team of Pon Ondru Kanden is totally unaware and not being informed about this at all!! Thank you @jiostudios for being so kind, your respect for the team of #PonOndruKanden has only increased multiple times for keeping us posted about it only through @X!”
Vasanth Ravi claimed that though the decision regarding the business aspects of the film lies with the producer, artistes deserved to be informed about them.
Jio Studios is yet to respond to Vasanth’s statement.
