Actor Vishal tasted success after a long time with Adhik Ravichandran’s Mark Antony. He will next be seen in the rural action-drama titled Rathnam. The poster of the film featured Vishal holding a severed head, which hinted at a violent movie, which is in line with the current trend. The poster grabbed attention with its shock value, but even that seems to be missing in the trailer of Rathanam.
The trailer opens with a bus falling off a hill followed by a series of action scenes with a romantic song in the background. If it is an attempt to emulate the odd song placements in films like Leo and Jailer, one has to say it has failed to create any sort of intrigue. Rather, the cacophony of the action sequences on top of Devi Sri Prasad’s song makes up for a jarring mix-mash that would make one wonder if a song is playing by mistake in another tab on the computer.
As far as the narrative goes, Rathnam is set at the border of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. The character Rathnam has enemies in both the states and the heroine (Priya Bhavani Shankar) is at the core of the conflict. Other than the two actors, the film also stars Samuthirakani, Gautham Menon, Ramachandra Raju, Murali Sharma, and Hareesh Peradi.
Besides Rathnam, Vishal has Thupparivaalan 2 in the pipeline. The film marks his directorial debut. The second part of Mysskin’s detective drama was taken over by the actor after a major fallout with the filmmaker.
