Adoor: After the first four months of 2024, the box-office collection of Malayalam films has touched Rs 900 crores. Manjummel Boys (Rs 236 crore), Aadujeevitham (Rs 150 crore), Premalu (Rs 136 crore), and Aavesham (Rs 113 crore) collected more than Rs 100 crore globally.
Meanwhile, Varshangalkku Shesham (Rs 70 cr), Bramayugam (Rs 60 cr), Abraham Ozler (Rs 40 cr) and Anweshippin Kandethum (Rs 20 cr) also did well at the box office. Out of 70 films released, eight were box office hits.
At the same time, Malayalam movies struggled in 2023. Last year, out of 220 films released in theatres, only 16 managed to do well in the box office. In fact, the total box office collection for 2023 did not reach this year's four-month collection.
After the success of Manjummel Boys, Malayalam films have been well-received in other states, especially in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh. Manjummal Boys collected more than Rs 75 crore from South Indian states, excluding Kerala.
