Susan Buckner, best known for her role as cheerleader Patty Simcox in the 1978 movie “Grease” died May 2.
She was 72. Her death was confirmed by her publicist, according to NBC News.
Buckner was 25 when she was cast in the role as Simcox, joining John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in the hit movie musical. As the perky, ponytailed Simcox, Buckner’s most famous line was “”Do the splits, give a yell! Show a little spirit for old Rydell! Way to go, red and white! Go Rydell, fight, fight, fight!”
She also appeared in shows such as “The Love Boat,” “B.J. and the Bear,” and “The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries.”
Buckner was a part of the 1981 horror film, “Deadly Blessings,” and 1989′s “Police Academy 6: City Under Siege.” She appeared in 1980′s “When the Whistle Blows,” TV series.
According to CNN, Buckner later left Hollywood to focus on being a mother to her two children. She also was a theater instructor for young children and taught dance in Florida for nearly a decade.
