Telugu actress Chandini Chowdary’s latest film, Yevam, is one of the two movies hitting theaters today. Delve into our review to find out how the movie fares.
Story:
Sowmya (Chandini Chowdary) joins as PSI at the Vikarabad police station, and Abhiram (Jai Bharat Raj) is the SI. One day, a girl gets murdered, and Chandini connects it with another case and discovers that a person named Yugandhar (Vasistha Simha) is trapping girls who love film stars. Did Sowya arrest the culprit? How did Abhiram help her solve the case? How is Harika (Ashu Reddy) related to the story? Who Yugandhar is and what his motto behind these crimes are the aspects we need to find out in the movie.
Plus Points:
For the first time, Chandini Chowdary plays a police officer. She delivers an adequate performance in the role, and Jai Bharat Raj also gives a satisfactory performance.
The actor who truly stands out with his impressive performance is Vasishta Simha, who perfectly embodies the role of the negative character and delivers a satisfactory performance.
Minus Points:
The trailer made audiences expect an intense investigative thriller, but the team seems to have ignored this promise. Films of this genre require an engaging screenplay to keep audiences on the edge of their seats, but unfortunately, the stretched-out scenes, unnecessary lag, and superfluous moments irritate viewers.
The story could have been written with a stronger narrative because frequent watchers of this genre can guess the culprit by the interval, leaving little to engage within the second half.
When Chandini Chowdary’s title card is displayed with the tag ‘re-introducing’, one would expect an entirely different role and a more robust performance from the heroine. Chandini is okay in her role, but the character doesn’t allow her to explore her true potential as an actress. Some scenes involving her are not interesting, and she needs to improve her acting in such moments.
Vasishta Simha could have been given more space to perform. Characters like Goparaju Ramana could have been better written for a more compelling drama. This kind of movie requires a potent musical score to elevate and engage the audience throughout, but unfortunately, the film lacks such a score, making it just another dull crime investigation thriller.
Technical Aspects:
Writer and director Prakash Dantuluri failed to create an engaging crime investigation thriller due to poor writing and proceedings that lack engaging elements. A better script with an engaging screenplay could have made a significant difference.
The cinematography is acceptable, but the music failed to elevate the film. Editing could have been better, as the film faces pacing issues, though the production values are fine.
Verdict:
On the whole, Yevam is just another dull crime investigation thriller with no substance. Chandini Chowdary and Vasishta Simha deliver adequate performances, but better character development could have significantly improved the outcome. In addition, the weak writing, laggy screenplay, and numerous unnecessary scenes make Yevam a film that can be skipped.
