Acclaimed actor Parvathy Thiruvothu, who will be seen next in the Malayalam film Ullozhukku, recently discussed her selective appearances in Malayalam cinema. Parvathy has not been seen in Malayalam films since Lalanna’s Song, which was released in 2022. Last year, she starred in the Telugu series Dhootha and the Hindi film Kadak Singh, but she didn’t make it to the silver screen in Kerala. However, the actor doesn’t feel like she has been absent from the scene.
In an interview with Manorama, Parvathy cited the evolving market dynamics as a significant reason behind her reduced presence in Malayalam films over the past few years.
Addressing her absence from Mollywood, Parvathy clarified, “I did not go anywhere. It is not as simple as moving from one district to another. There are a lot of changes in the market, and we have to adapt accordingly. If better opportunities come from other industries, I’ll go there.”

The actor noted that such long gaps are not new in her career pointing out how she waited for the right project even during her formative years. Recounting an example, she said, “It took me four years to do Bangalore Days after City of God. Even then, when people considered it my comeback, I did not feel so.”
Parvathy also highlighted the challenges of theatrical releases in the current landscape. “The producers have to take care of so many things. Sometimes, the movie starts off as a theatre release and ends up being released on OTT. OTT is not a bad space. There is no need to think like that. The important thing is that the movie should get released.”
Her upcoming movie, Ullozhukku, directed by Christo Tomy, is set to hit theatres on June 21. In the film, Parvathy stars alongside veteran actor Urvashi. Ullozhukku promises to be an intense family crime-drama set against the backdrop of Kerala’s floods, delving into dark family secrets and conflicts.
