The Tamil film industry faced a tough weather in the first half of 2024, with major releases like Raayan, Lal Salaam, Ayaalaan, and Captain Miller flopping at the box office.
Despite a few surprise hits like Aranmanai 4, Garudan, and Maharaja, there was a noticeable lack of a blockbuster.

However, the second half of the year holds great promise, with several highly anticipated films with biggest stars set to hit the screens.
Leading the charge is Indian 2, directed by Shankar and starring Kamal Haasan. Set for release on July 12, this film sees Haasan return as the iconic character Indian, with Shankar showcasing 12 distinct looks for the actor.

Despite mixed reactions to the trailer, the combination of Shankar and Haasan has created high expectations.
Following closely is Dhanush’s Raayan, a gangster drama scheduled for release on July 26. With Dhanush also directing and starring in his 50th film, and AR Rahman composing the music, Raayan is poised to make a significant impact.

Thalapathy Vijay’s GOAT, aka The Greatest Of All Time, is one of the most talked-about films of the year.
Featuring Vijay in a dual role, the film’s time-travel storyline promises to captivate audiences. Speculated to be one of Vijay’s final films, GOAT is crucial for his career.
Suriya’s Kanguva and Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan are set to clash during the Dasara holidays on October 10.
Kanguva, directed by Siruthai Siva, is Suriya’s most expensive film to date and features him in six roles.
Vettaiyan, directed by TJ Gnanavel, aims to continue Rajinikanth’s success streak after Jailer.
Ajith Kumar’s Vidaa Muyarchi, directed by Magizh Thirumeni and set for a Deepavali release, and Chiyaan Vikram’s Thangalaan, directed by Pa Ranjith and aiming for an August 15 release, are also highly anticipated.
Thangalaan, set against the backdrop of the Kolar Gold Fields, promises to be a visual treat.
Finally, Sivakarthikeyan’s Amaran, a biographical action war film, is also eyeing an August 15 release.
Based on the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan, the film is expected to draw significant attention.
The Tamil industry is banking on these films to revive itself and get back in the reckoning as one of the top industries in the country.
