Baton Rouge General completes new infusion center

Baton Rouge General has completed a new 12,000-square-foot infusion center for cancer patients.
The hospital and its partner, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, worked with New Orleans-based DonahueFavret Contractors to finish the project in three months. It started in October 2021 and the buildout process began in early November.
The project was divided into two different sections: the infusion side where patients received
treatment, and the infusion pharmacy where equipment needed to be installed in a timely manner, a news release from DonahueFavret said.
Workers used existing windows, doors, hardware and bathroom accessories, which helped them complete the project in less than three months and reduced overall costs, the release said.
DonahueFavret partnered with WHLC Architecture to develop conceptual design drawings and structural systems for the building, with less than one month to produce construction documents.
The completed center has infusion bays, nursing stations, support rooms and an infusion pharmacy.
The project faced several challenges with its fast-tracked schedule. Besides the COVID-19 pandemic creating a 30% reduction of labor, the infusion equipment required a high level of expertise, and long-lead times were required for equipment such as chemo hoods, the release said.
