Eddie Murphy is back on the beat in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, one of the new movies on Netflix this week.
Murphy, of course, starred as Axel Foley in three previous Beverly Hills Cop movies, in 1984, 1987 and 1994.
Now, three decades after his last turn as the intrepid Detroit police detective, Murphy is back in Beverly Hills, California, again, this time to help his estranged adult daughter, Jane (Taylour Paige) solve a case of crime and corruption.
Murphy is not alone in his return to Beverly Hills Cop land. Along for the ride are the original trilogy’s stars Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot, while Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Kevin Bacon are new to the cast. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is directed by Mark Molloy.

Here’s a look at some of the other major titles new on Netflix this week.
Before Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland embodied Peter Parker/Spider-Man on the big screen, the friendly neighborhood webslinger was played by Tobey Maguire under the direction of Sam Raimi.
The first Spider-Man movie in 2002 finds Spidey facing off against Norman Osborn/The Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), while Spider-Man 2 pits the superhero against Otto Octavius/Doc Ock (Alfred Molina). Spider-Man 3 finds Spidey squaring off against three villains—Eddie Brock/Venom (Topher Grace), Flint Marko/Sandman (Thomas Haden Church) and New Goblin/Harry Osborn (James Franco).
Maguire, Dafoe, Molina and Church, of course, reprised their roles for the Marvel Cinematic Universe extravaganza Spider-Man No Way Home in 2021.
The Spider-Man trilogy debuts on Netflix on Monday, July 1.
Director Robert Zemeckis directs the Back to the Future trilogy of films, a trio of time-traveling adventures starring Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly, who travels back and forth in time in a DeLorean time machine created by Dr. Emmet “Doc” Brown (Christopher Lloyd).
McFly’s adventures take him back to 1955 in 1985’s Back to the Future, to 2015—and back to 1955 again—in 1989’s Back to the Future Part II and back to the Old West in 1885 in Back to the Future Part III.
The Back to the Future trilogy debuts on Netflix on Monday, July 1.
Setting the stage for the return of the hit Netflix original series Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 1 on July 18, the original version of The Karate Kid begins its streaming run on Netflix.
The film goes back to the 1980s to tell the story of the young Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), who learns karate from his apartment building maintenance man Mr. Miyagi (Noriyuki 'Pat' Morita) to defend himself against the bully Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka).
The circumstances, however, lead to a showdown between Daniel and Miyagi and their rivals Johnny and John Kreese (Martin Kove)—who trains his students a dirty, “no mercy” style of karate at the Cobra Kai dojo.
The Karate Kid debuts on Netflix on Monday, July 1.
Other new movies on Netflix on July 1 include American Psycho (2000), Annabelle (2014), Big Daddy (1999), The Blind Side (2009), Call Me by Your Name (2017), Captain Phillips (2013), Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (2013), Easy A (2010), The House Bunny (2008), Jigsaw (2017), Life (2017), Magic Mike XXL (2015), Matilda (1996) and Monsters vs. Aliens (2009).
Also new on the streaming service on July 1 are the movies The Nun (2018), Pan (2015), Paw Patrol: The Movie (2021), The Road to El Dorado (2000), The Sweetest Thing (2002), Uncle Buck (1989), The Wiz (1978), Warcraft(2016), Zathura: A Space Adventure (2005) and Zombieland(2009).
In addition, two new Netflix original movies debut on the streamer on Friday, July 5—Goyo and The Imaginary.
