New Delhi: The Tamil film industry is mourning the loss of prolific filmmaker, Surya Kiran, who passed away on Monday at the age of 51 due to complications arising from jaundice. The news was confirmed by PRO Suresh, who stated, “Director #SuryaKiran has passed away due to jaundice. He directed Telugu films, Satyam, Raju Bhai, and a few others. He was also a former contestant on Biggboss Telugu. Om Shanti.”
Surya Kiran, known for his directorial ventures such as Satyam and Raju Bhai, began his career as a child artist, featuring in over 200 films during his early years. His transition to directing proved to be a success, with his debut film Satyam, released in 2003, starring Sumanth and Genelia, emerging as a box office hit.
Throughout his career, Surya Kiran directed a string of notable films including Dhana 51, Brahmastram, and Chapter 6. Notably, he also participated in Bigg Boss Telugu season 4. His personal life, marked by his marriage to actress Kalyani (Kaveri) and subsequent divorce, also drew attention.
Despite facing personal challenges, Surya Kiran remained dedicated to his craft. However, after his divorce from Kalyani, his professional pursuits took a backseat, leading him to lead a more subdued life. Nevertheless, his recent endeavours hinted at a potential comeback, including a film project with comedian-actor Saptagiri and the completion of his last directorial venture, Arasi, featuring Varalaxmi Sarathkumar.
Surya Kiran’s untimely demise has sparked an outpouring of condolences from across the South Indian film fraternity, with tributes flowing in from the Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Telugu film industries.
