Kate Winslet in the HBO limited series "The Regime."
March marks an exciting month for new TV shows and movies on Max. From Timothée Chalamet’s Wonka to Kate Winslet’s new HBO miniseries The Regime, more than 70 titles are arriving throughout the month. Read on to learn more about the series, films, and documentaries to stream in March.
Premiering on March 3 is The Regime, the new HBO Original limited series starring Kate Winslet, Matthias Schoenaerts, Guillaume Gallienne, Andrea Riseborough, Martha Plimpton, and Hugh Grant. Winslet portrays Elena Vernham, a chancellor of a crumbling authoritarian regime who turns to Schoenaerts’ character, solider Herbert Zubak, as an unlikely confidant. “As Zubak’s influence over the chancellor continues to grow, Elena’s attempts to expand her power eventually result in both the palace and the country fracturing around her,” the show’s description reads.
Also arriving on Max is the 2023 movie musical Wonka starring Timothée Chalamet. The prequel film tells the origin story of Willy Wonka, a character from Roald Dahl’s 1965 children’s novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Wonka is directed by Paul King (the Paddington films). “I love musicals, so it wasn’t a tough call,” King explained to USA Today. “I had this idea of a young man trying to be Willy Wonka, but he’s not quite there. His hat’s battered, his overcoat’s tattered and there’s holes in his boots.”
Another movie to look forward to is Nicolas Cage’s A24 film Dream Scenario. In the film, the life of Paul Matthews (played by Cage) gets turned upside down when millions of strangers suddenly start seeing him in their dreams. But when his nighttime appearances take a nightmarish turn, Paul must navigate his newfound stardom. Julianne Nicholson, Michael Cera, Tim Meadows, Dylan Gelula, and Dylan Baker also star.
Max subscribers can also tune into new HBO Original documentaries, like A Revolution On Canvas, a political thriller that chronicles the disappearance of more than 100 “treasonous” paintings by Sara Nodjoumi’s father, seminal Iranian modern artist Nickzad “Nicky” Nodjoumi. There’s also the sports documentary The Lionheart, which centers on a family navigating the tragic loss of legendary race car driver Dan Wheldon, who died from a crash at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 2011.
Other notable mentions include the Max Original drama series, The Girls on the Bus, which follows four female journalists with different reporting styles and personalities who hit the campaign trail. Ramy Youssef is also releasing his new HBO stand-up comedy special Ramy Youssef: More Feelings, while the comedy docuseries Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show is debuting on March 29.
