The push for short-form video driven by TikTok and Reels has left many photographers scrambling to fight the algorithms. But, Lightroom Mobile’s newest feature is designed to create a Reel in seconds while using only still photos. Edit replay is a new feature on the photo editor’s mobile app that creates a brief video of the edits, labeling the processes used and showing a before and after. The update also comes with the ability to skip the import process when using Lightroom on a mobile device. I tried both features out — and found them both to be clever additions to the mobile app.
Adobe has added two new features in the June 13 update to the mobile app, both on smartphones and on iPad: instant access to photos already in Apple iCloud or Android Gallery and edit replay I tested out both new features and added the following update to our Adobe Lightroom CC review:
One of Lightroom CC”s advantages over Classic is how seamlessly it fits with Lightroom Mobile, which just got a few new updates. The import process is one of my least favorite tasks, but smartphone photographers can now skip out on that entirely. Lightroom Mobile now has a tab featuring all the photos already in your camera roll. That means you can skip the importing process and just tap the photo that you want to edit. That’s a nice addition, but it’s only going to come in handy when editing smartphone photos.

The second feature in the June 2023 update is the ability to automatically generate a video of your edit. Edit replay shows a before photo, then a photo at each step with a label as to what tool was used, then finally a before and after slider for a comparison. The whole process only took a few seconds and I quickly had an interesting video that I could share as a Reel without taking any video. This is a great feature since stills photographers are often looking for ideas for content but don’t have the time to dedicate to shooting video as well as stills. This is one way to get some quick short-form video content in less time. This is one feature that would love to see come to the Desktop versions of Lightroom CC as well as Classic.
