Ramoji Film City is one of the most popular film cities in the South, and it's the filmmakers' favorite spot. From high-budget dramas to small-budget films, several films have been shot in the popular film city of Hyderabad. Cherukuri Ramoji Rao, the founder of Ramoji Rao Film City, passed away due to ill health, and his demise has saddened the cinema stars. Here is a look at five Tamil films that were shot at Ramoji Rao Film City.

Lokesh Kanagaraj's directorial 'Leo' featuring Vijay in the lead role was shot at the Ramoji Rao Film City, and it's the film's climax that was shot in the popular film city. A grand set was erected by the makers for the climax shoot, and the makers have reportedly spent a whopping price for the film's set. Some other portions of 'Leo' were also shot at the Ramoji Rao Film City.

Mani Ratnam's directorial 'Ponniyin Selvan' was released in two parts, and the shooting of the two-part historical drama was completed in a package. The historical drama was shot in several overseas locations, but major sequences of Mani Ratnam's directorial were shot at Ramoji Rao Film City. A palace kind of set was erected by the makers at the Ramoji Rao Film City, and they reported reusing some of the properties from the previous few historical films.

Karthi and director Venkat Prabhu joined forces for the first time for 'Biryani', and the suspense thriller was released in 2013. The major portions of the Tamil film were shot on the set erected at the Ramoji Rao Film City, and the team completed the film shooting in a quick time. 'Biryani' features Karthi, Hansika Motwani, and Premgi Amaren in the main roles, and the film had music scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Karthi joined hands with director Vamshi Paidipally for the Tamil-Telugu bilingual 'Thozha' aka 'Oppiri'. The emotional family drama was primarily shot at Ramoji Rao Film City. Karthi and Tamannaah played the main roles, while Nagarjuna Akkineni played a crucial role. 'Thozha' was released in 2016, and the film was a super hit at the box office.

After 'Nerkond Paarvai', Ajith reunited with director H Vinoth for the second time for 'Valimai'. The cop drama also focuses on a strong mother sentiment, and the film features Ajith, Huma Qureshi, Karthikeya, and Raj Ayyappa in the lead roles. Almost half of the filming of 'Valimai' was shot at Ramoji Rao Film City, Hyderabad, and the team used VFX to match the scenes.
