'Wanted' filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov will direct the sci-fi pic for Amazon MGM Studios ahead of a worldwide theatrical release.

In her first move since the big debut for Dune: Part Two, Rebecca Ferguson has signed on to star opposite Chris Pratt in Mercy, the sci-fi thriller for Amazon MGM Studios, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov will helm the film from a script by Marco van Belle. Pratt stars as a detective in the thriller set in the near future when capital crime is on the rise and he finds himself accused of a violent crime and having to prove his innocence.
Oppenheimer producer Charles Roven brought the project to Amazon MGM Studios and will produce Mercy with Robert Amidon at Atlas Entertainment, Bekmambetov and his BEL banner and Majd Nassif.

Besides Dune 2, Swedish actress Ferguson also has among her credits BBC’s The White Queen, films like The Greatest Showman and the Mission: Impossible franchise and the movie adaptation of The Girl on the Train, where she appeared opposite Emily Blunt.
Pratt is best known for starring as Peter Quill/Star-Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. His other film credits include Wanted, Moneyball, Zero Dark Thirty, The Lego Movie and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Ferguson is repped by CAA and Chalcot Square Management. Deadline first to report on Ferguson joining Mercy.
