Honeymoon Express, starring Chaitanya Rao and Hebah Patel in the lead roles, hit theaters today. Read our review to discover how it fares.
Story:
Eshan (Chaitanya Rao) and Sonali (Hebah Patel) fall in love at first sight, but after getting married, differences start to arise between them. Unexpectedly, they encounter an elderly couple, Bala (Tanikella Bharani) and Tripura Sundari (Suhasini Mani Ratnam), who suggest the young couple spend 7 days at the Honeymoon Express resort to reconnect and understand each other better. As Eshan and Sonali navigate the unique experiences at the resort, they face challenges that test their bond. The rest of the story reveals whether or not they leave the resort as a loving and united couple.
Plus Points:
The only highlight of this movie is the beautifully composed melodies by Kalyani Malik. The songs provide therapeutic relief amidst the otherwise dreadful experience.
Minus Points:
The story, a mishmash of genres such as romance, futuristic, love, multiverse, and drama, falls apart right from the start, irritating the audience with its lack of direction. There is not even a single compelling scene throughout the movie.
Chaitanya Rao and Hebah Patel give utterly lackluster performances, mostly appearing together for awkwardly forced intimate scenes. It is painful to watch veterans like Tanikella Bharani and Suhasini Mani Ratnam deliver such bizarre performances, which is quite unexpected given their immense experience and calibre.
The screenplay is an incoherent mess, confusing viewers and failing to convey any clear message. It’s a struggle to follow the narrative, as it makes absolutely no sense.
Technical Aspects:
Technically, the movie is very poor, except for the songs. While Kalyani Malik’s music is a rare delight, RP Patnaik’s score fails to impress the audience. The cinematography, editing, production values, and especially the CG work are of low quality. The technical standards of the movie are very poor.
Verdict:
On the whole, Honeymoon Express is an underwhelming ordeal from start to finish. The performances of both young and veteran actors are quite bad, and even the technical aspects are appalling. Kalyani Malik’s music is the only silver lining in this movie. The movie prioritizes cringeworthy intimate scenes over delivering any semblance of a meaningful story.
