The Tamil action-drama Rathnam, starring Vishal, premiered in theaters on April 26, 2024. While the movie achieved moderate success at the box office, Vishal’s fans eagerly anticipate its OTT release. Recent reports indicate that the film will make its digital debut roughly a month after its theatrical release.
Rathnam is directed by Hari, marking the third collaboration between the director and Vishal after Thaamirabharani and Poojai. In this film, Vishal plays the titular character Rathnam, while Priya Bhavani Shankar takes on dual roles as Malinga and Loganayagi. The supporting cast includes Samuthirakani as MLA Panner Selvam and Yogi Babu as Moorthy, among others. Produced on an approximately $6 million budget, the film is a joint venture by Stone Bench Films and Zee Studios.
According to the Times of India, Rathnam’s synopsis is as follows: “A fiery young man living near the Andhra border with a strong aversion to those who abuse women embarks on a perilous mission. His objective: to safeguard a young woman, bearing a resemblance to his mother, from the relentless pursuit of a dangerous gang.” To add an engaging backdrop, the makers have filmed Rathnam at various locations, including Trichy, Karaikudi, Vellore, Tirupati, and Chennai.
Recent reports from 123Telugu suggest that the OTT giant Prime Video has secured the post-theatrical rights for Rathnam. Additionally, it is scheduled for streaming on May 24, 2024. Furthermore, earlier reports from Telugu Hindustan Times suggest that Netflix has also secured streaming rights for the film. However, official confirmations from both platforms are still pending.

Besides Rathnam, Vishal was recently seen in Mark Antony, directed by Adhik Ravichandran, which was released in 2023. Alongside Vishal, the film features S. J. Suryah and Ritu Varma, with Sunil, Selvaraghavan, Abhinaya, Y. G. Mahendran, Nizhalgal Ravi, Redin Kingsley, and Manikandan in supporting roles. Mark Antony is currently available to stream on Prime Video for those who are eager to watch.
However, with no official announcement, it remains to be seen when the platforms will confirm the details of Rathnam’s digital release.
