Back-to-back surprises have taken over the Tamil online space. Even as fans were rejoicing the news that Karthik Subbaraj and Suriya were teaming up for a film, another major update broke the internet. Lokesh Kanagaraj has unveiled the first-look poster of Rajinikanth‘s Thalaivar 171. Ahead of the poster reveal, the makers chose to avoid any sort of hype.
The reveal has indeed worked in favour of the makers as it has taken everyone by surprise. The poster features a monochrome image of Rajinikanth wearing a denim shirt. He is shackled by a chain of wristwatches, which alone are in colour. There is a clock behind the actor as well. The omnipresence of watches makes one wonder if Thalaivar 171 is a time-travel movie.
The watches in Thalaivar 171 have also led to fan theories that the film might have a connection to Suriya’s Rolex character. With Lokesh Kanagaraj films, such discussions are bound to happen as the director has become the poster boy of world building in Tamil cinema.
Along with the poster, Lokesh Kanagaraj also announced that the title of the film will be unveiled on April 22.

Rajinikanth is currently working on his film with TJ Gnanavel, which is titled Vettaiyan. The movie is expected to be released by this year.
