A reel posted by actor Vidya Balan is receiving a lot of praise on social media. As a homage to Malayalam films, she enacted a fun scene from the movie ‘Mookilla Rajyathu’.
‘Mookilla Rajyathu’ is a Malayalam comedy movie directed by Ashokan-Thaha. It was released in 1991 with Thilakan, Mukesh, Jagathy Sreekumar, and Siddique playing the lead roles.
The reel captioned ‘Been watching Malayalam films obsessively for the past 2 weeks…so this is my fun ode to my roots’ was shared with the hashtag “ #LoveMalayalamCinema”.
Vidya Balan, who’s born and brought up in Mumbai, has her roots in Kerala. She began her acting career in a serial produced by Ekta Kapoor. She was about to make her screen debut in the Malayalam film ‘Chakram’, directed by Kamal. But the movie was shelved due to production difficulties. Later, the Bollywood movie Parineeta (2005) brought her widespread recognition.
Her tribute to Malayalam cinema acts as a constant reminder of her strong bond to her roots.
